KARTHIKEYAN'S RETURN TO INDY RESULTS IN TOP 20

Indianapolis, Indiana, USA (July 23, 2010) Five weeks after his best-ever NASCAR finish (11th) in Texas, Karthikeyan was back behind the wheel of the #60 Chevrolet Silverado at O’Reilly Raceway Park in Indianapolis. The resulting finish was in the twentieth position on the grid.
The day began with two practice sessions in which Karthikeyan concentrated on finding the racing line and dialing in the best set up of the truck. His times were consistent in practice and the truck was improving as the session progressed.
Unfortunately, Karthikeyan did not get off to the start he had hope for in qualifying and ended up in twenty-third.
The No. 60 truck was strong throughout the first part of the race with Karthikeyan running faster than several of the trucks in front of him. In Lap 95 when No. 51 truck failed to pick up speed coming out of the corner, Karthikeyan unintentionally tapped him from behind. In retaliation the No. 51 allowed Karthikeyan to pass and then attempted to spin him out. The move backfired sending the No. 51 into the wall and then into the garage as his race ended early due to the damage.
Karthikeyan in the No. 60 sustained damage to both the front and rear ends, but was able to continue racing. Following a pit stop to repair the damaged truck, Karthikeyan was cited for speeding on pit road and forced to restart at the back of the back. Minor scrapes with the wall in laps 133 and 189 further delayed is attempt to move up on the track.
“I really felt like I was having the best race of my NASCAR career so far. I could stay with the front running pack of trucks and felt confident that we would finish well. The wreck changed the momentum and we had to work hard to stay on pace and finish,” said Karthikeyan.
Karthikeyan’s next race in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series will be on August 7th in Nashville, Tennessee.
